Life can sometimes be a recurring decimal in which the same things happen at different times to different people, funny yet interesting it is that three former winners of the African Footballer of the Year at one time or the other played for the same club, French giants AS Monaco
1 Victor Nosakhare Ikpeba
Popularly known as the ‘Prince of Monaco’ the former Super Eagles striker was one of the hottest strikers in France as he made a record 169 appearances and netting 55 goals. For his exploits in Atlanta 96 and at his club in the year in 1997 he was rewarded with the coveted crown of African Footballer of The Year
2 Emmanuel Oluwaseyi Adebayor
The big lanky guy who succeeded Nwankwo Kanu at Arsenal also laced his boots and donned the colours of the French giants where he made 78 appearances hitting the back of the net 18 times. The Togolese talisman continues to command a colossal presence being a source of inspiration to not just his team mates but his nation. He is Togolese all-time top goal scorer with 31 goals. He was voted African Footballer of The Year in 2008
3 George Oppong Weah
The incumbent president of Liberia also is not left out from the league of Africans who who the red and white colours of Monaco. He joined AS Monaco for 12,000 pounds under the mentorship of legendary Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger. He is a two time winner of the African Footballer of The Year Award winning it in 1989 and 1995 respectively which was the same year he won the European and World Footballer of The Year Awards. Till date he is the only African to have hit that feat.
